| The land , on which the original Jimmy Morgan Zoo stood, and ALL of the animals within the Birmingham Zoo, ARE OWNED BY THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM. Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Homewood, and the Jefferson County Commission make up a consortium, which purchased additional land (former site of Shades Valley High School) for the current Birmingham Zoo. Each member of the consortium provides annual financial support to The Birmingham Zoo. The City of Birmingham provides $500,000.00 in financial support each year to the Birmingham Zoo (YOUR TAX DOLLARS). BZI (Birmingham Zoo, Inc. / who employs Dr. Foster) is an Independant Contractor to the City of Birmingham. |
